NFL player faces possible life sentence after being arrested in Florida

A former Alabama football standout and first round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft now may never play the game again.

Terrion Arnold, a defensive back for the Detroit Lions in the NFL, is now facing a potential life sentence in prison after he previously denied involvement in an attack back in February. USA Today reports Arnold was arrested last Wednesday in Florida after turning himself in and charged three counts of felony robbery and three counts of kidnapping among others.

Investigators say that Arnold was the leader in a plot to confront and pistol whip three teenagers back in February because he believed they had stolen from him and his friends at an Airbnb. Among the stolen goods was $100,000 in cash all from Arnold, according to Associated Press.

However, police found that the men had nothing to do with the original supposed theft.

NFL on NBC's Mike Florio reacted to the charges on “Pro Football Talk.”

“Even if he didn't do anything, if this is happening at his behest, his request, his direction, he's got a problem,” Florio said.

Lions' Head Coach Dan Campbell addressed the allegations when they first broke out back in February. His comments were discussed on “Costa and Jansen with Heather,” a morning sports radio show, on 97.1 FM Detroit Sports Talk. Co-Host Jon Jansen is a former offensive lineman for the Michigan Wolverines and the Detroit Lions.

Jansen: “I talked about his quote earlier, this is what he had to say when this all came out back in February and March. His quote was, 'Until something happens, I feel like we're good here.' And then he continues 'I'm going to trust what the kid said and we're alright.'"

Costa: "I hope it was more thorough than, 'Hey, he told me he wasn't a criminal.'"

Arnold's agency, EAG Sports Management, released a statement saying that there is no credible evidence linking him to the claims. The Lions said that they are aware of Arnold's arrest but declined to comment.
