The "He Gets Us" campaign has run commercials during the Super Bowl multiple times and have been present in other avenues in sport as well, becoming primary sponsor to Ty Gibbs' NASCAR Cup Series ride several times. An ad campaign meant to spread the gospel is now one of the most recognizable names in Christian media.
Now, they're attempting to take their message to the biggest international sporting event in the world — the World Cup. The advertisement is scheduled to run 16 times between now and the end of the tournament and will run during the World Cup final on July 19th.
It depicts a variety of scenes and ends with the message "Love Choses to Lose, Jesus Shows Us Why."
“What if you lose the argument intentionally? Or your popularity on purpose? What if you lose your ego, your time, your control? What if you lose for someone else?” says the commercial.
The video's description reads that losing can look like letting things go when a person thinks they need to hold onto it and how Jesus shows that losing is not weakness but can be the path of something more meaningful.
On their website, He Gets Us has a “What's on your mind today?” section that walks one through why loosing is so difficult. It relates love to loss, puts it into the perspective of Jesus’ life and asks if losing is how to find what one is truly looking for.
They also posted an article speaking on one of the most recognizable faces of soccer on the planet, Lionel Messi, titled “What are You Willing to Loose?” They mention the struggles that Lionel and his family went through when the young Argentinian left his home country to pursue his soccer career and how it compares to the losses that Jesus went through during his ministry.
The article covers deeply that love requires loss, costing something. According to them, Jesus says that “the only path to a deep satisfaction is a life lived in sacrificial love to others."
