During an interview on Fox News, White House Border Czar Tom Homan confirmed that the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is looking into allegations involving Omar, but he would not disclose the details of what he described as an “ongoing criminal investigation.”
However, he did say that “if someone committed an immigration violation, if someone committed marriage fraud or anything like that, regardless if they're a congressman or not, no one's above the law.”
Omar told Fox News Digital that she has not been made aware or contacted by the DHS regarding a criminal investigation against her. She has also denied the allegations that she married a man believed to be her brother in order for him to obtain U.S. citizenship.
Omar, who represents Minnesota’s 5th Congressional District, is a Somalian refuge who moved with her family to Minneapolis, Minnesota, in the 1990s.
Robert Spencer, the director of Jihad Watch, says the friends and allies she has are very well entrenched.
“She is an integral part of the left's machine in Washington. It's extremely predictable what will happen if she's convicted of anything in the first place or even tried,” Spencer says. “If there's any serious effort made to deport her, then this will be a massive scandal as far as the left is concerned.”
They will try, Spencer says, to demonize President Donald Trump.
“Saying that it's all just this fascist power grab by this power mad president trying to criminalize opposition to his regime. They'll rush to her defense. I hate once again to be pessimistic, but I think Ilhan Omar's got it made,” Spencer says. “It would be great to be Ilhan Omar because she could rob a bank now. She could do anything she wants, and leftists will defend her, and leftists are powerful enough that they can make that defense stick.”
Jihad Watch says, however, that there is a glimmer of hope that Omar will face justice.
