The Office of Civil Rights within the U.S. Department of Education has proposed an expansion of Title IX that would apply to schools that receive federal money, which is the vast majority of schools in Ohio. This expansion aims to have the definition of sex include "sexual orientation" and "gender identity."
As implementation would essentially criminalize those who do not go along with the woke ideology, including parents of the children who are gender-dysphoric and students in the same classrooms with children who are gender-dysphoric, Linda Harvey of Mission America says board member Brendan Shea has submitted a resolution "to support parents, schools, and districts in rejecting harmful, coercive, and burdensome gender identity policies."
She tells AFN the resolution has received overwhelming support from values voters, with hundreds of thousand taking the time to express their concerns and urge the state board of education to push back against the changes.
"There has been some question about where some of the numbers of comments went," Harvey reports. "At one point, it looked like there were over 300,000. Now, it's something over 200,000 or close to that."
But even though some 160,000 comments seem to have "mysteriously" disappeared, the process involves addressing all of the public comments, which means the vote on the resolution will not happen anytime soon.
"With their response that is required to all of the commentary and with the lawsuits, it's going to take a while for the Title IX changes to come into effect," Harvey explains.
Meanwhile, Attorney General David Yost and more than 20 other state attorneys general are suing the Biden administration because of his proposed Title IX changes.
