Since the Arizona Supreme Court upheld a 160-year-old law banning most pregnancy terminations, abortion forces have been scrambling to pass legislation to overturn it. Wednesday included two failed attempts from Democrats to legalize abortion once more.
"The Arizona Legislature failed to repeal our pre-Roe law to protect unborn children from the moment of conception unless necessary to save the life of the mother," summarizes Cathi Herrod of the Center for Arizona Policy. "It's not over. We still have a significant road ahead of us."
She knows the abortion lobby will not give up easily.
"Our battle in Arizona is about saving those lives of precious unborn babies and sparing their mothers the heartache of abortion," Herrod tells AFN.
Meanwhile, Republicans are reportedly proposing constitutional amendments to declare the state pro-life.
"Our legal analysis of potential ballot referrals is ongoing," the pro-lifer reports. "I have reached no conclusion or decision on whether a ballot referral by the legislature is advisable, but stay tuned. That matter will probably not be settled for probably at least a couple of weeks."
Pro-aborts in the state claim they have enough petition signatures to call for a vote to make abortion a constitutional right.
