Even though President Biden has described himself as a devout Catholic, many tend to disagree. A recent Pew Research poll, done in February, found only 13% of those surveyed believe him to be very religious. In the poll, 44% categorized him as “not too religious” or “not at all,” LifeNews reported.
Eric Scheidler, executive director of Pro-Life Action League, tells AFN he won't judge Biden's faith but he does object to the president refusing to defend unborn children.
“He's failing to do that. We can see that objectively,” Scheidler says. “We can't see what's in a guy's heart but we can definitely see his actions which are violence. He's doing violence to unborn children.”
Pope Francis, whose own liberal views have frustrated Catholics, nonetheless criticized Biden’s abortion stance in 2021 during an interview with Univision.
During a pregnancy, the pope pointed out, there is “human life” in the womb, with DNA and growing organs, so an abortion logically eliminates that life.
“I leave it to [President Biden's] conscience and that he speaks to his bishop, his pastor, his parish priest about that incoherence," the pope told a reporter.
That public rebuke led to a face-to-face meeting at the Vatican in October 2021. According to a CNN report, Biden shared after the meeting that Francis had told him he was pleased he was a "good Catholic," and that he should continue receiving communion, despite opposition from some conservative American bishops over his support for abortion.
People of faith, Scheidler says, should be praying for Biden to change his heart.
