In June of 2022, when the U.S. Supreme Court reversed its 1973 decision that opened the floodgates to aborting babies in all 50 states, pro-lifers got to work.
"We found out that based on changes in the laws and people's attitudes after Dobbs v. Jackson, at least 32,000 babies are alive because they were saved by the Supreme Court's reversal of Roe v. Wade," reports Carol Tobias of the National Right to Life Committee (NRLC).
So ever since that momentous summer day in 2022, a new generation of babies has been born.
"Unfortunately, we also had some cases where, like in Ohio, we lost a ballot measure," Tobias notes. "The people there decided that they wanted to amend their Constitution to allow for abortion for any reason. I mean unlimited abortion."
Seven states set back the pro-life movement with constitutional amendments on abortion, but NRLC's Peter Northcott says it has only motivated them to fight harder this coming year.
"Having more of these telling stories and leading with those stories about women that were protected through parental notification through laws that have upheld the dignity of human life -- that's one thing that I think we need to lead with from the get-go," he submits.
Another point of focus, he says, needs to be the thousands of babies who were saved when their mothers changed their minds after taking the first of two pills used in a chemical abortion.
Northcott says polls indicate that most Americans do want restrictions on abortion, do want notification if a minor daughter is seeking an abortion, and most are against tax-funded abortions.
"You don't have to be pro-life to oppose these referendums with enshrining abortion up to birth, with the removal of parental notification laws, informed consent laws, and enshrining taxpayer funded abortion," he contends.
As other states are expected to vote on similar constitutional amendments in the near future, the pro-life movement learned from that Ohio election. They continue to look for ways to reach voters with the truth and to shut down the lies the abortion lobby has successfully used to convince people to vote for killing unborn babies.
