Earlier this year, pro-life group Reprotection successfully shut down American Family Planning, located in Pensacola, but the group also urged the state to take action against Dr. Christopher Saputa after three patients were injured under his care.
Reprotection spokeswoman Missy Stone tells AFN the physician was a family practitioner who was performing abortions despite no OB/GYN training.
“He had no training in surgical procedures,” she says, “and he was doing complicated D-and-E procedures.”
D-and-E is medical shorthand for dilation and evacuation, when the cervix is dilated and the fetus is removed from the mother’s uterus.
Dr. Saputa did have some experience: He worked with abortionist James Pendergraft, whose medical license was revoked permanently in 2016.
Stone says the Florida Board of Medicine announced August 4 it is suspending Dr. Saputa’s license for a year and banning him from OB/GYN procedures in the future.
“He absolutely should have lost his license altogether,” she says.
