According to an article by LifeNews, a program called Real Alternatives dates back to the administration of Gov. Bob Casey Sr., a Democrat, and has enjoyed bipartisan support over the years. This year, however, Planned Parenthood is urging ally Gov. Josh Shapiro and the state legislature to remove the program and its $7.2 million in funding from the state budget.
Maria Gallagher, speaking for Pennsylvania Pro-Life Federation, tells AFN the state-funded program has assisted more than 300,000 new mothers across the state.
“They've gotten everything from diapers to daycare referrals, from maternity clothes to mentoring,” she says. “It's a vital program and it needs to be preserved.”
Compare that endorsement to complaints from Signe Espinoza, who leads Planned Parenthood Pennsylvania Advocates, the political arm of the abortion giant. She called it “unacceptable” for Real Alternative to help pregnancy centers because they don’t perform abortions or “non-judgmental pregnancy care," as she called the life-ending procedure.
Gallagher predicts the state legislators will be “wise” and not fall for what she calls a “trap” by Planned Parenthood to pull the funding.
