Governor Mark Gordon (R) has signed into law SF 0109, a bill prohibiting the use of abortion pills, as that abortion method is four times more dangerous for the mother than surgical abortions. It also bans shipping the deadly drugs into the state. As AFN has reported, they have already sent thousands of women to hospital emergency rooms and resulted in the deaths of at least 28 women.
"Doing that is a misdemeanor as well as a $9,000 fine, so it does have teeth," Senator Tim Salazar (R), the bill's sponsor, details.
The punishment of the fine and up to six months in prison applies to each violation of the law, so it can mount up.
Sen. Salazar adds that during the debate, abortion supporters repeatedly and inaccurately described the termination of preborn children as healthcare.
"I believe that the taking of human life is not healthcare," he states. "Abortion treats no disease. Modern medicine knows the unborn is a patient not a disease, and I don't believe the people of Wyoming consider abortion as part of healthcare."
When the law becomes effective in July, it will be illegal to "prescribe, dispense, distribute, sell, or use any drug for the purpose of procuring or performing an abortion."
Live Action points out that as Wyoming's sole abortion business, Women's Health & Family Care Clinic in Jackson, currently commits abortions exclusively through the abortion pill, nearly all preborn babies in the state will now be protected.
Wyoming's trigger bill that protected all preborn children from abortion following the overturn of Roe v. Wade is currently blocked by the courts.
