One of Texas' most vocal advocates for life says a recent incident in Colorado demonstrates the need for pro-life pregnancy centers to make their presence and purpose known.

Considering that most abortions are illegal in her state, Kyleen Wright of Texans for Life says she was not exactly surprised to learn that nine pregnant Texas women recently rode together to Colorado Springs to obtain abortions – their trip likely paid for by abortion organizations.

But thanks to the presence of capable sidewalk counselors stationed at the abortion facility, eight of those women decided not to go through with their abortions.

"It's just an amazing thing to me that not only did they make this long drive, but probably someone gave this as a gift to them, adding to the pressure – and still [the pro-lifers] were able to persuade that many women – eight out of nine – to choose life for their babies," Wright comments.

The women did not know of the services that are available to them at more than 200 facilities in Texas whose aim is to help women through their pregnancies.

"Think how vested you have to be to secure things at home with a job and maybe other children. You go on this very long bus ride with people you don't even know, and probably someone else paying for it," Wright poses. "You get there, and then you find out there's help available. And that's all it takes to change your mind."

From this incident, she says her organization learned that they must do a better job of letting people know the help is available. Also, her state is making sure pro-life sidewalk counselors in neighboring abortion states have that information as well so that they may share it with anyone they encounter who has traveled from Texas to terminate their child.
