Live Action spokeswoman Christina Bennett says they put a microscope on the study by The Gynuity and found that the claim that abortion pills are safer than Tylenol is not even close to accurate.
"About 6% of people are hospitalized because of the abortion pill, whereas with Tylenol, it's 0.56% hospitalization," Bennett reports. "It's a lie that they're actually hospitalized more for Tylenol than the abortion pill."
In fact, women are hospitalized because of abortion pills 107 times more than people who are hospitalized because of Tylenol – and the latter is much more widely and commonly used. The pro-lifer poses that if the reverse were true – if Tylenol were sending that many people to the E.R. – then no one would keep that quiet.
"You would see it all over social media, you would hear it in the news, there'd be complaints, there'd be recalls, and that's not happening," she observes. "We know it's not happening. People have safely used [Tylenol] for decades. Of course there are hospitalizations, but the only reason they're bringing up this false comparison is simply because they want to pretend that the abortion pill is safe."
The study of 10 sites that provided the service in 13 states and Washington, D.C. includes analyses from women who obtained any "needed pre-abortion tests" locally and had a videoconference with a study clinician. Sites sent study packages containing mifepristone and misoprostol by mail and had remote follow-up consultations within one month by telephone (or by online survey, if the participant could not be reached) to evaluate abortion completeness.
Though the study concludes that "this direct-to-patient telemedicine service was safe, effective, and acceptable," the pro-abortion research group's own findings show none of that to be true.
Three emergencies since January 1st
Meanwhile, a pro-life group in New Mexico is calling on residents to protect women.
The University of New Mexico operates the UNM Center For Reproductive Health (UNMCRH), one of the three abortion clinics in Albuquerque. Tara Shaver of Abortion Free New Mexico says it has already injured at least three women since the new year began.
"For at least two of the cases, ambulances have been called to the clinic because of some kind of emergency that the abortion clinic staff cannot handle and manage there at the outpatient clinic setting," she relays.
Little is known about the third case.
Shaver says since the abortionists are trained at the university's medical school, the emergencies may have been caused by less experienced people being allowed to perform the procedures.
"The University of New Mexico does train residents and medical students at their abortion facility, so when a woman goes in for her procedure, she may be seeing a medical student. She may be seeing a fellow in training," the pro-lifer explains.
UNMCRH performs late-term abortions up to six months (24 weeks) of pregnancy, which means the women are most likely suffering life-threatening complications like retained fetal body parts, uterine rupture or perforation, cervix laceration, infection, heavy hemorrhaging, embolism, abnormal placentation, disseminated intravascular coagulation, seizures, and more.
Because of the clinic's record, Abortion Free New Mexico wants the facility closed down, and the organization is asking people to sign a petition to that effect.
