Pro-lifers in Mississippi are celebrating a new state law that helps non-profit pregnancy resource centers, and pro-lifers in neighboring Arkansas are being recognized as the most pro-life state in the nation for a law passed last year.

Mississippi’s governor, Tate Reeves, has signed the Pregnancy Resource Act that involves a $3.5 million business tax credit for donations to pregnancy resource centers. He signed the bill outside a Jackson pro-life clinic, Center for Pregnancy Choices, located in the capital city.

Ertelt: No surprise to see infanticide in abortion bill

Pro-lifers in California are refusing to back down over an alarming abortion bill whose language would still permit infanticide even after the bill’s author was forced to change it.

AFN has reported pro-lifers were aghast after reading AB 223, authored by state lawmaker Buffy Wicks. The bill uses the term “perinatal,” which means a period of time after birth, and that would mean Democrats are approving infanticide.

Wicks slightly changed the language of her bill but failed to appease her shocked pro-life opponents.

"We said if you give them an inch they'll take a mile," Steven Ertelt, editor of LifeNews, says of abortion supporters. "[We said] if you legalize early abortions, they'll want abortion up until birth, and if they're going to want abortions up until birth the next thing they're going to want is infanticide."

Wicks, a Democrat, worked with abortion giant Planned Parenthood to introduce that bill and numerous others during the current session.

HB 1685 was sponsored by House Speaker Philip Gunn, Rep. John Lamar, and Rep. De'Keither Stamps.

Across the Mississippi River, in Arkansas, Jerry Cox of the Family Policy Council of Arkansas tells AFN the state has been recognized for a 2021 law that permits counties and municipalities to declare they are pro-life communities. To date, he says, 20 counties and 12 municipalities have passed resolutions.

“Arkansas is the most pro-life in the nation according to Americans United for Life,” he says, “and we're going to try and keep it that way.”

Taylor, Dr. Jameson (AFA Action) Taylor

Regarding the new Mississippi law, Jameson Taylor of AFA Action says Mississippi is home to approximately 40 pregnancy resource centers that serve thousands of families across the state.

"The centers provide high-quality medical care and concrete assistance,” he says, “to mothers and children.”

AFA Action is the political arm of Mississippi-based American Family Association.

AFN has reported that such facilities are church-affiliated non-profits that help fearful women who are considering abortion after learning they are pregnant. The centers offer counseling, financial resources, and diapers and baby clothes. The centers provide a critical service for the pro-life causes in Mississippi, which is among the poorest U.S. states.

Taylor predicts Mississippi’s pregnancy centers will see more women seeking help if the U.S. Supreme Court rules in favor of the state’s 15-week abortion ban, a landmark ruling that is expected to be announced later this summer.

"We're very proud of what we've done not only to protect the lives of the unborn through the Dobbs case," Speaker Gunn tells AFN, "but very proud of this bill which will serve to provide services to those individuals after they are born."
