The Center for Medical Progress and Judicial Watch conducted an investigation revealing the University of Pittsburgh was using tissue and body parts from the babies, including one project in which babies' scalps were attached to rats that grew human-type hair. With the swirling publicity surrounding it, the school hired attorneys to investigate – and their report contends there was nothing illegal or unethical.
Maria Gallagher with the Pennsylvania Pro-Life Federation offers a word of caution.
"I'd be skeptical of this report which was issued by a law firm that was hired by the university," she tells AFN. "I believe that there are serious questions that have been raised about the gruesome experiments that take place at the University of Pittsburgh, and this report really leads to more questions than answers."
One of questions that deserves an answer, according to Gallagher, revolves around the fact that one of the investigators is a graduate of the university's pharmacy school.
"We should have competent people who are well-versed in this area to be conducting the investigation, not people who are associated with the university and are clearly interested in just a whitewash of what the university is doing," she argues.
According to a LifeNews report, the question of a possible conflict of interest was brushed aside because that particular investigator graduated from the university almost 20 years ago.
Gallagher's hope is that the report will not be put on a shelf to gather dust until the issue fades away – and that instead, the government will take its own look at the facts and draw its own conclusions.
