GOP hopeful 'viral' doesn't also mean 'victory' for Dems' Crockett

A former GOP leader in Texas is pleased that a "rising star" in the Democratic Party already has a Republican challenger for 2026.

Jasmine Crockett (above, left) is a Dallas-area congresswoman who has become a prominent face of the Trump resistance movement. In March alone she has opposed closure of the Department of Education's Regional Office of Civil Rights located in Dallas; called for rehiring of federal employees she claims were "unlawfully fired" by Elon Musk and DOGE; and voted against the recently enacted continuing resolution, labeling it a "blank check to [Musk] signed by the president."

In addition, her heated rhetoric has often gone viral – and the second-term congresswoman has even been mentioned as a possible 2028 presidential pick.

Heading into the 2026 midterms, Crockett is facing a Republican challenger in Dallas-area attorney and U.S. Army veteran Sholdon Daniels (above, right), who says he is "chomping at the bit" to remove her from office.

Cathie Adams is a former chair of the Republican Party of Texas.

"I am so grateful that Jasmine Crockett has an opponent – and I am hopeful that he can gain the proper traction," Adams tells AFN. "And I can tell you one other thing: We have Alan West as the chairman of the Dallas County Republican Party. And as a former congressman and a very principled man … he is in a very key place to help this challenger of Jasmine Crockett."

And Adams says Daniels' experience as a communication specialist in the U.S. Army should serve him well in the campaign.

"I think this is a man who knows how to hone his message – and that's what people will hear. That's what will motivate them to go out and vote. And I truly do believe that Jasmine Crockett has seen better days and it is time for her to go. I have never seen a more contrary embarrassment come out of the city of Dallas. So I am very hopeful and I think this is doable."

Daniels is on record as describing Crockett as more of a "performer" than a serious legislator: "She wasn't able to pass any laws when she was in the Texas State House, and we don't anticipate that she'll be able to have any effect while she's on Capitol Hill."
