Johnson: Lying, spending go hand-in-hand in Biden's world

Joe Biden's curious victory lap on the anniversary of his Inflation Reduction Act found him in Milwaukee Tuesday where he criticized Wisconsin Republican Senator Ron Johnson.

The president told a crowd of supporters that his year-old legislation has done great things.

"This law is one of the biggest drivers of jobs and economic growth this country has ever seen. This law is helping families save thousands of dollars in energy bills every year through the tax credit and rebates to buy new and efficient electric appliances, weatherize their homes and install heat pumps and rooftop solar [panels]," Biden said.

In the same speech, he attacked Senator Johnson in the senator's home state: "He believes outsourcing manufacturing jobs is a great thing. He's on record saying, this is what he said, American workers, he doesn't think they should manufacture products that require a lot of labor."

Johnson refuted Biden's claims in an appearance on Washington Watch Wednesday.

"He's lying. When I was in manufacturing, I actually exported products. I exported plastic to China. I didn't outsource any jobs. So unfortunately, the president's mental acuity is diminished – as is his physical acuity," Johnson told show host Jody Hice.

Biden was basically taking aim at a political opponent who typically votes with the Republican party, according to The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel.

Johnson was a vocal supporter of former President Donald Trump. He twice voted against convicting Trump during Trump's impeachment hearings. He also voted against the creation of a commission to study the Jan. 6 riots. Fiscally, he voted against a $1.2 trillion infrastructure project.

The GOP lawmaker says lying comes easily to the president.

"He has no problem lying. We've seen him lie about what he said in terms of never talking to Hunter about his overseas business deals. Of course, he talked to Hunter. He went to dinner with his business associates, he called into business meetings; so unfortunately, we have a president in office who is a repeated liar – and he has no problem in doing so," Johnson argued.

Phillip Jauregui, senior counsel and director of the Center for Judicial Renewal at AFA Action, has also identified Joe Biden's trouble with truth.

"Not only did he have involvement, but he was personally involved in over 20 conversations – either on the phone or in person – with Hunter Biden's foreign business dealings," Jauregui said.

Some Biden spending numbers

According to debt numbers at Investopedia.com, Biden – in little more than two years in office – has spent more than either Bill Clinton (in two terms) or George H.W. Bush did as president.

World events often play a big part in how much a president spends while in office. Biden's estimated spending of almost $2.5 trillion does not include the $24 billion he requested this week to further aid Ukraine to defense against the Russian invasion.

Federal Emergency Management Association officials estimate that Maui could be rebuilt from its devastating wildfires for less than $6 billion.

In spite of an Inflation Reduction Act heavy with renewable energy incentives, grocery and gas prices remain high.

"The dollar you held at the start of the Biden administration is worth only 85 cents, which is devastating to every American. It's raising all of our costs, but it's particularly devastating to seniors on a fixed income. Anybody who saves has seen their savings reduced from a dollar to 85 cents. The Inflation Reduction Act is basically funding a bunch of green energy boondoggles," said Johnson.

Reacting to Wednesday's White House celebration of the one-year anniversary of the Inflation Reduction Act, the ranking member of a Senate committee – Sen. Shelley Moore Capito (R-West Virginia) – shared that the committee gives the IRA a failing grade.

"The reality [of the IRA] is the results have been devastating for the American people," she said.
