Ever since Republicans took over the U.S. House earlier this year, Democrats and their media allies have shrugged over evidence – such as subpoenaed bank records – that suggest Hunter Biden sold access to then-Vice President Joe Biden --- "the big guy" --- to wealthy and crooked business tycoons around the world. This week, the Republican-led House Ways and Means Committee released transcripts from the WhatsAPP messenger service in which Hunter Biden threatens a Chinese businessman, Henry Zhao, who is associated with an Chinese energy company, Fox News reported.
“I am sitting here with my father,” Biden writes, “and we would like to understand why the commitment made has not been fulfilled.”
The issue or dispute is not stated in the message but the threat is hard to miss. Hunter Biden goes on to state, “I will make certain that between the man sitting next to me and every person he knows and my ability to forever hold a grudge that you will regret not following my direction.”
Not done with that threat, the son of the then-Vice President says people “mistake kindness for weakness – and all too often I am standing over top of them saying I warned you.”
A first-hand account of that exchange came from Gary Shapley, who is one of two IRS agents who went to House Republicans with allegations the Department of Justice blocked the Hunter Biden investigation led by U.S. Attorney David Weiss.
Earlier this week, Weiss announced a plea agreement with Hunter Biden in which the son of Joe Biden will avoid jail if he pleads guilty to tax-related charges and a firearms charge.
Paul Kamenar, an attorney and lead counsel at ethics watchdog National Legal and Policy Center, tells AFN he predicted months ago Hunter Biden would get a no-jail deal from the Department of Justice.
“The prosecutor put him in what's called a pretrial diversion program for the next year or two,” Kamenar advises. “They won't even file any charges on that."
"It's hard to keep up with all the scandals surrounding Attorney General Merrick Garland,” says Washington Times columnist Robert Knight. "Because it's clear he blocks investigations that might impact President Biden or his family, but pursues investigations against political opponents such as pro-lifers, parents who protested school boards, anybody who doesn't share his left-wing ideology."
Garland says GOP attacking 'American democracy'
In a Friday press conference, Garland insisted Weiss was not blocked or stymied and said the “integrity” of the Justice Department is being attacked by accusations from House Republicans.
“This constitutes an attack on an institution,” he told reporters, “that is essential to American democracy and essential to the safety of the American people.”
Compare the U.S. attorney general’s accusation about “integrity” to Shapley’s testimony about Lesley Wolf, an assistant U.S. attorney. The agent said Wolf tipped off Hunter Biden’s attorneys after she learned IRS agents were discussing a search warrant for a storage unit that housed Hunter Biden’s financial documents.
"Sadly what we're seeing is that these agencies have gone off the rails. They've become politicized,” conservative activist Gary Bauer tells AFN. “They are undermining and betraying the brave men and women that work for them, in many cases, because throughout these agencies, you've got political ideologues in charge."
