On Wednesday, the group of 42 migrants Texas Governor Greg Abbott (R) shipped out West arrived in Los Angeles, California – a self-declared "sanctuary" for illegals.
"Our border communities are on the frontlines of President Biden's border crisis, and Texas will continue providing this much-needed relief until he steps up to do his job and secure the border," Abbott said in a statement.
Ira Mehlman, media director for the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR), points out that the Los Angeles City Council issued an invitation for this last week, when it promised to extend protections to people living in the country illegally and to allow them to apply for some state benefits.
"They passed a resolution declaring themselves a sanctuary," he reports. "Actions and virtue signaling very often come with consequences."
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) has likewise flown groups of illegals from border states to Sacramento, California at taxpayer expense. Last fall, when Florida flew 49 Venezuelans to the upscale Massachusetts island of Martha's Vineyard, Democrats accused DeSantis of kidnapping.
"States like Massachusetts, New York, and California will better facilitate the care of these individuals who they have invited into our country by incentivizing illegal immigration through their designation as 'sanctuary states' and support for the Biden administration's open border policies," a spokesman for Gov. DeSantis said.
"If you're going to send the message that you're open to having illegal aliens in your community and invite them and welcome them and provide them with whatever they need, then why not have Governor Abbott or other governors who are dealing with this send them their way," Mehlman wonders.
Meanwhile, his immigration enforcement organization applauds the House Homeland Security Committee for launching an investigation into Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas (pictured above) for dereliction of duty.
The investigation announcement comes as empowered and enriched international criminal cartels continue to engage in smuggling and trafficking human beings and lethal narcotics that are responsible for the deaths of more than 100,000 Americans each year.
Mayorkas is accused of refusing to carry out his duties of enforcing the nation's immigration laws and securing the borders, which has resulted in an unprecedented humanitarian and national security crisis.
"When he became secretary of Homeland Security, he took an oath to faithfully carry out the duties of his office, and he clearly has not done that with respect to immigration," Mehlman contends. "In fact, he's done precisely the reverse. He's done everything in his power to undermine the integrity of those laws and to ensure that they're not being enforced."
And he points out that the House Homeland Security Committee does have oversight over Mayorkas' department.
"This is a very legitimate investigation into what he has been doing in the two and half years that he's been in office," the FAIR spokesman adds. "We certainly applaud the fact that they're doing it and look forward to seeing the conclusions of their investigation."
If the committee reaches what Mehlman believes is the right conclusion, he says the next step must be to begin impeachment proceedings against him – even though removing him from office will be virtually impossible with the current makeup of the Senate.
