After launching his campaign Wednesday, Pence is making history as the first current or former vice president in eight decades to challenge his running mate in a White House bid.
“President Reagan described us as a shining city on a hill,” Pence states in a campaign video, “and above all, he called on Americans to renew optimism and believe in themselves again – to believe in each other.”
Gary Bauer, who leads Campaign for Working Families, tells AFN the tone of the video is no surprise because Pence wants to return to the Reagan era and the “morning in America” theme. That theme will not work, he predicts, when left-wing forces are attempting to rip American from its historic Judeo-Christian roots.
“Times change,” Bauer says. “Reagan was elected 43 years ago, and it's a different country."
