When former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley announced her intention to run for president last week, she became the first Republican to challenge former President Donald Trump, who officially announced his candidacy last month.
Polling continues to show the former president holds a commanding lead over all others, including the second-place contender, Ron DeSantis. Kevin McGary, president of The Frederick Douglass Foundation of California, says a lot of people are pushing him to run.
"I have no doubt that Ron DeSantis will test the waters," McGary tells AFN. "There's a lot of money and influence behind him, and so it's not going to cost him anything."
Still, McGary says there is currently no stronger candidate than Trump.
"With the situation that we're in right now, there is absolutely no candidate -- and I mean on either side -- there's no person on the planet, in my opinion, who can be a better president than Trump at this point," the political analyst submits.
His reason for saying so is that "DeSantis has not been attacked by every single agency, every single global entity in the world."
McGary believes that what the country needs is someone who has the experience to step in and "completely dismantle the deep state" on day one.
