Republicans are recalling last summer's Mar-a-Lago raid in the wake of the recently revealed discovery of potentially classified documents in the offices of the Penn Biden Center, where Joe Biden kept an office after he left the vice presidency in 2017 until shortly before he launched his 2020 presidential campaign. According to reports, the documents were discovered by Biden's personal attorneys on November 2, 2022, in a locked closet in the Biden office.
Congressman Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) (pictured above), chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, said this information – coming to light just now, two months later – should have been released to the American public before the November 8, 2022 midterms. Jenna Ellis, a former attorney for President Trump, agrees with Jordan.
"Why didn't we hear about this before the midterms? That's very suspicious," Ellis remarked during her program on American Family Radio. "Are we only hearing about this because there's a new Republican majority in Congress?
"… [Because of] this new transparency in government and against the weaponizing of government committees, I think [Jordan should] look into this," she adds.
The radio host says Attorney General Merrick Garland now runs the risk of being accused of hypocrisy as his Department of Justice deals with this damaging revelation.
"[He can't be] ignoring someone who wasn't even the sitting president [at the time]," she argues, in reference to then-Vice President Biden.
"If their allegation was that even the sitting president, who has the ability to declassify anything at any time under the law – if that wasn't even a sufficient defense for Donald Trump, then how much more should Joe Biden as the vice president have a criminal referral then?"
But Ellis doesn't have any confidence that that will happen. Still, Garland has asked U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Illinois John Lausch – a Trump-appointee – to review the matter.
