Mayor Eric Adams (D) is reportedly finalizing a deal with Norwegian Cruise Line to house illegal aliens on one of its massive ships and dock it at Staten Island's Homeport.
Ira Mehlman, a spokesman for the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR), says this is the second time Adams has made an effort to provide a lavish NYC lifestyle for lawbreaking immigrants.
"A few months ago, he booked them rooms at some very fancy midtown hotels," Mehlman recalls. "But I guess they've run out of space there, because both the Biden administration and Governor [Greg] Abbott (R-TX) keep sending more of these migrants to New York City, and [Adams] is running out of places to put them."
On Friday, Adams declared a state of emergency in response to the continued arrival of illegal migrants from southern states – an effort that Fox News points out is bipartisan, with the Democratic mayor of El Paso, Texas, sending more migrants to New York City than Abbott.
More than 17,000 migrants have been bused to the city since the spring, which is only a small fraction of the migrant encounters at the border over that timeframe. Adams says that one in five people in the city's shelter system is a migrant, which is creating the "humanitarian crisis."
And while Adams is inclined to blame GOP governors for the situation in his city, Mehlman maintains that the president's policies can be credited for the ongoing flood of illegal immigrants.
"He needs to get on the phone to President Biden and tell him that this needs to stop," Mehlman submits.
The FAIR spokesman also suggests that the ship could have gone to good use in Florida, where Mayor Adams could have leased and dispatched it to temporarily house some of the "thousands and thousands of people" displaced by Hurricane Ian while their homes are being rebuilt.
"But that didn't seem to cross his mind," Mehlman laments.
He says it is only a matter of time until Adams will have to explain to homeless New Yorkers why illegal aliens are enjoying luxury on a cruise ship while they are still living on the streets.
