Democratic U.S. Sen. Raphael Warnock and Republican football legend Herschel Walker wasted little time exchanging attacks Tuesday after both handily defeated primary challengers to set up a historic, high-stakes showdown for a coveted Senate seat in Georgia.
Walker, who is backed by former President Donald Trump, defeated five GOP challengers in his race, clearing the 50% mark needed to avoid a runoff. Warnock easily defeated beauty industry professional Tamara Johnson-Shealey. Their general election matchup marks the first time that two major party candidates for U.S. Senate in Georgia are black. The November face-off could determine control of the Senate.
While most polls have Walker leading his far-left wing opponent, the RealClearPolitics average shows only a half point lead for the Republican. But Rob Chambers, vice president of AFA Action, has a prediction: "I would say it's going to be something like 52-48 in favor of Herschel Walker, if all things are fair in the election."
The political analyst admits being a bit surprised at how many Democrats voted in Tuesday's primary.
"Nearly 700,000 people in the State of Georgia voted for Raphael Warnock. That's shocking to [think] how many people in the state of Georgia want someone so radical as Warnock," he shares.
"But when voters compare [the two candidates], I don't think they're going to pull the switch for Warnock – I really don't," he continues. "For inflation to come down significantly? For gas prices to come down significantly between now and November to give Democrats something to run on? I don't think it's going to happen."
Chambers argues "all that Democrats really run on is fear" – which leads him to also predict Warnock and his fellow Democrats may come up with some new "COVID hoax" to try to scare people.
