Much has been made of Donald Trump’s endorsement of JD Vance during an April 23 rally at the Delaware County Ohio Fairgrounds.
Trump cast Vance as the best chance to keep the U.S. Senate seat in Republican hands, and a new poll by Fox News shows Vance surging ahead of Josh Mandel, who had been the frontrunner for the May 3 primary.
But Tom Zawistowski, president of the tea party-affiliated We the People Convention, says there is more that meets the eye in the poll because Vance's 5-point lead falls in the margin of sampling error.
"And the largest number of primary voters, 25%, which is more than the 23% they claim [Vance] has, remains undecided," Zawistowski tells AFN. "Moreover, half of those currently supporting a candidate say they could change their minds.”
AFN reported in a previous story that Zawistowski, a critic of Vance, says Trump disappointed Ohio's conservative base by endorsing Vance over other candidates including Mandel and Mike Gibbons.
According to a compilation of polls by RealClearPolitics, Vance and Josh Mandel are in a dead heat for the lead.
“This thing is up for grabs, and any of the candidates could win next Tuesday,” Zawistowski claims. “That’s how fluid this thing is.”
