Missed the mark

The Associated Press "fact check" of President Joe Biden's first State of the Union speech points out overstatements, false statements, exaggerated statistics, and even a "dubious" suggestion. If that's not enough, some observers say the president often appeared confused and slurred words during his speech.
Gary Bauer of Campaign for Working Families says after watching Biden's speech, he's deeply concerned about the future of the country.
"Seeing [on the podium] both the President of the United States and a Speaker of the House who are ancient and well past their peak in their abilities – and then also a Vice President, Kamala Harris, who is showing herself to be really incompetent on every assignment she's been given," Bauer laments. "I'm thinking these are arguably the three most powerful people in America."
Bauer agues that every member of Congress should be calling for a cognitive test for the president.
"There is something wrong," he emphasizes. "He slurred words, mumbled words, repeatedly said nonsensical things – repeatedly! So, there is something not right there.
"I imagine what America's enemies who watch these things were thinking: Hey guys, we've got a limited amount of time … let's grab what we can while we can."
Joe's 'sold out' to LGBTQ agenda, Equality Act
Biden took a few moments during his speech to push a bill favoring transgenders:
Biden: "And for our LGBTQ+ Americans, let's finally get the bipartisan Equality Act to my desk. The onslaught of state laws targeting transgender Americans and their families is wrong. As I said last year, especially to our younger transgender Americans, I will always have your back as your President, so you can be yourself and reach your God-given potential."
Peter LaBarbera with Americans for Truth About Homosexuality tells AFN it's apparent the president is wearing blinders on this issue – and is "totally invested" in the LGBTQ cause.
"What's so disturbing is that the president only sees the transgender activists' perspective," says LaBarbera. "He says he has the back of transgenders – but what about the women who are being victimized in women's sports by transgender 'women' who are actually biological men?"
He continues: "What about the women who are victimized by transgender activists who are biological men who are going into women's locker rooms and women's restrooms? What about the denial of women's privacy?
"Biden doesn't care anything about that because he's totally invested in the gay and transgender cause."
LaBarbera predicts that stance will hurt the president and the Democrats in the upcoming election because while Biden refuses to grasp the fact that women and girls are being victimized by trans-activism, voters understand that.
"What he's basically saying is he has the back of LGBTQ activists but he doesn't have the back of girls and women, insofar as he supports the Equality Act – which is the most radical LGBTQ legislation ever," the pro-family activist explains. "[It's] discriminatory legislation that hurts girls and women's sports and victimizes women because the Equality Act basically would stand up for the right of biological men [who are] pretending to be women …. It would defend their rights over the rights of natural biological women.
"This is a president who is 100% invested in the gay and transgender cause. He's sold out to the Equality Act."
Biden the 'bizarre'
President Biden waited until close to the end of his State of the Union to address abortion – without even using the word itself:
Biden: "Advancing liberty and justice also requires protecting the rights of women. The constitutional right affirmed by Roe v. Wade – standing precedent for half a century – is under attack as never before. If you want to go forward not backward, you must protect access to health care, preserve a woman's right to choose, and continue to advance maternal health care for all Americans."
Carol Tobias, president of National Right to Life Committee, tells AFN that the phrase "a woman's right to choose" is code-speak for abortion.
"And then he added 'and continue to advance maternal health care for all Americans'. I thought: Are you kidding me? You just talked about killing unborn children and then you add on the need to protect maternal health care?" Tobias wonders.
"Sure, maternal health care is critical – it's important, we need to work on it. But to put the two together was really kind of bizarre."
Biden also lashed out at Senate Republicans – and one Democrat – for defeating legislation Monday that would have negated all pro-life federal and state laws.
