The White House has been in damage control mode since President Joe Biden was confronted by Fox News reporter Peter Doocy about the Wall Street report revealing that the Biden administration was considering paying certain illegal aliens $450,000.
"For a while there, people actually thought that Joe Biden spoke for the Biden administration," says Ira Mehlman, a spokesman for the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR). "Apparently he does not. When asked by Peter Doocy about whether the Department of Justice was seriously contemplating paying $450,000 per person, Biden said that that's absolutely not true and that it's garbage reporting. That was met immediately by a response from the ACLU, which is representing those families, and they disputed it."
A Biden spokesman then admitted that the administration is, in fact, considering paying off the illegals.
"They didn't disavow the $450,000 number or any other particular number," Mehlman points out. "So if you want to understand why this administration's ratings are in the tank, part of it has to do with the fact that they don't seem to have any consistent message, and the president doesn't seem to be in charge. People are left wondering."
When it comes to immigration policy, the FAIR spokesman says the shots are clearly being called by the radical pro-open borders fringe of the Democratic Party.
