The 43rd annual National Conservative Student Conference is scheduled for August 2-7. Hosted by Young America's Foundation (YAF), the event will feature public figures and legislators like former Vice President Mike Pence, Senator Ted Cruz (R-Texas), governor-turned-YAF President Scott Walker (R-Wisconsin), Ben Shapiro, and Representative Dan Crenshaw (R-Texas).
"Usually we host this conference every year in Washington, D.C., but because of everything going on with the COVID restrictions, we were not sure if it was going to be 100% open and back to normal," shares YAF spokeswoman Kara Zupkus. "So we decided pre-emptively to move it to Houston, Texas just in case, because they've kind of been a free state all along,"
In 1981, President Reagan began the tradition of hosting the National Conservative Student Conference at the White House each year of his presidency. He also addressed the conference in 1993.
She says it is important for students to hear a conservative perspective.
"They don't get that perspective in the classroom," she asserts. "They really only get one side, which is the liberal viewpoint. And when they come to our conferences, they get speakers from all over the side of the conservative spectrum and people that might disagree with each other on core issues but altogether come together underneath the skies of limited government, free enterprise, and traditional values."
The YAF spokesperson calls that unity "super important," especially during a time when students are facing things like critical race theory and "gender nonsense in the classroom," as well as having socialism being pushed on them.
