International Christian Concern (ICC) spokesman Mattias Perttula says his organization has issued its "Hero on the Hill" award.
"The purpose is to recognize a congressional leader who has not just talked about doing something for persecuted Christians and other religious minorities, but has actually put a lot of action into it in terms of legislation, writing bicameral bipartisan letters, doing and making statements -- just being an active advocate for the persecuted global community of Christians," Perttula details.
This year the award goes to Oklahoma U.S. Senator James Lankford (R), who reportedly fits the bill in every respect.
"He has been a pronounced leader basically since even before he entered the Senate," the ICC spokesman observes. "He led a momentous resolution known as the Blasphemy Anti-Forced Conversion that targeted one of the legal frameworks that a lot of other countries use to persecute Christians -- like India and Pakistan."
That, Perttula asserts, is just one of many actions Senator Lankford has taken to fight persecution overseas and to protect religious freedom in America.
