Donald Trump famously campaigned on a “big, beautiful wall” along the U.S.-Mexico border, then pushed that project through as president, but Biden quickly ended that project during his first days in office.
And now what remains of the remaining materials is being sold as scrap.
“Republicans furious as Biden sells unused Trump border wall for millions,” reads a Newsweek headline, as if the American public isn’t angry, too.
The materials apparently got noticed on the website GovPlanet which sells surplus government materials, according to the Newsweek article.
Ira Mehlman, a spokesman for the Federation for American Immigration Reform, or FAIR, says it’s obvious the Biden administration doesn’t want any more border barriers.
“They want to make sure nobody else can build the wall either,” he complains, “so they're selling off the materials that the taxpayers paid for, most likely at pennies on the dollar.”
If there is a new president in the White House after Biden, Mehlman says that new president will be forced to start all over to find funds, then buy materials, to continue the project.
“So this is an effort on the part of the administration to just try to make sure that it doesn't happen,” he says, “and if it does happen, to make it as unpalatable as they possibly can."
