The "I Want to Know" campaign spearheaded by illumiNations – an alliance of the world's leading Bible translation organizations – is presenting Christians the opportunity to sponsor the translation of one "life-changing" Bible verse in order to get God's Word out to the entire world … even to nations that have never heard or read scripture.
According to illumiNations, approximately 3,800 "language communities" around the world do not have a complete Bible, with more than 2,000 of them not even having a single verse of scripture to read.
With one out of seven people on the planet still standing outside of God's light for the world, the "I Want to Know" campaign sets out to blot out the darkness by shining scripture on those who have yet to read it.
As an avid supporter of illumiNations, Mart Green – who serves as Hobby Lobby's ministry investment officer – is excited to fill in the gap with God's Word.
"One billion people still don't know what God's Word has to say to them," Green points out in a press release. "You and I have the opportunity to change someone's life forever, because just one verse has tremendous power."
Currently, the three most popular Bible verses in America – according to Christian Today – are:
- "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." (John 3:16, NIV)
- "'For I know the plans I have for you,' declares the Lord, 'plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." (Jeremiah 29:11, NIV)
- "I can do all this through him who gives me strength." (Philippians 4:13, NIV)
To get the Word out, illumiNations is giving Christians the opportunity to financially sponsor the translation of one verse of scripture – and also to share their favorite Bible verse on social media by using the hashtag #IWTKBible.
By 2033, illumiNations plans to reach its "All Access Goals" of making sure everyone on the planet has access to the Bible. The alliance breaks down the numbers it expects to see in just 12 years.
"It means 95% of the world's population will have access to a full Bible, 99.96% will have access to a New Testament, and 100% will have access to at least some scripture," the translating alliance explains.
