AB 2442, the Increasing Access to Gender Affirming Care bill, is sponsored by Equality California and Planned Parenthood Affiliates of California and is being promoted as a way to meet the needs of out-of-state transgender patients coming to The Golden State because their home states ban manipulative and mutilative procedures.
Brad Dacus of the Pacific Justice Institute says those who support this bill only care about one thing:
"That is pushing and promoting their agenda to promote and encourage more children and adults to give in to gender confusion with horrific medical and psychological ramifications," he submits.
Recognizing the harms, most states have passed legislation that, instead of encouraging so-called gender-affirming care, bans it outright.
"This is something California should learn from and understand that the long-term consequences, the permanent consequences of gender distortion and procedures promoting gender distortion are very dangerous," the attorney contends.
The legislature returned last week to finish making decisions about the remaining bills that have not been killed or abandoned during this year's legislative process. If a bill is to survive, it needs the approval of both houses of the state legislature, the Assembly and the Senate, by the end of August. Then Governor Gavin Newsom (D) will make the final decision by the September 30.
The Assembly has already approved AB 2442.
If Gov. Newsom has future presidential aspirations, he could potentially veto it, as Dacus says it is unpopular with most of the general public.
