WHO Director General Tedros Ghebreyesus says it is not a matter of if, but when Disease X or some other hypothetical virus 20 times deadlier than COVID hits. So, he is urging countries to sign on to an international agreement on pandemic preparedness that would allow the WHO to issue mandates and closures and other pandemic restrictions, overriding even the authority of federal governments.
Twila Brase of the Citizens' Council for Health Freedom calls it the mother of all scare tactics.
"There is an attempt by the World Health Organization to keep all of us on tenterhooks in fear of whatever is coming next, to make us all think that there's another COVID around the corner," she says.
The Biden administration has not signed America on yet, but Brase says they are leaning that way.
"If the United States signs on, there's an entirely different battle that must take place, and that's the battle over states' rights," she explains. "Some states have said, 'We're not doing anything the World Health Organization tells us to do.'"
She does not think many Americans, even in blue states, would take too kindly to the restrictions that would likely accompany the next pandemic, especially if they come from a foreign health agency.
"I think that a lot more people would stand up, a lot more people would refuse to close their businesses, a lot of churches would never shut down," Brase predicts. "I think it would be a very different environment the next time around."
As AFN has reported, Ghebreyesus denies that the accord is a "power grab," calling it instead a "mission critical for humanity" during the next world medical emergency.
