When Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas revealed he was putting together the Orwellian "Ministry of Truth"-type board, he also said that liberal blogger Nina Jankowicz would be leading the censorship team.
"Verified people can essentially start to edit Twitter the same sort of way that Wikipedia is, so they can add context to certain tweets," she explained in a Zoom call about how it was going to work.
But according to the New York Post, not just anyone will be allowed to do that. Jankowicz, however, is eligible to do so because she is "verified."
"There are a lot of people who shouldn't be verified -- who aren't, you know, legit," she added.
"Her idea of disinformation is my opponents are wrong and therefore they need to be censored," responds Scott Whitlock, research director for the Media Research Center's NewsBusters.org.
He thinks this violation of the First Amendment should be at the top of every newscast.
"We've been kind of doing a weekly update every Monday, and there's really just no coverage, despite how Orwellian it sounds, how, frankly, scary it sounds," Whitlock reports.
Other than the minute and a half "Meet the Press" gave the story, Whitlock says the media has been silent. He suspects misinformation is not an actual concern.
"This disinformation board will be an attempt to try it and save the Democrats from disaster," he suggests.
