Attorneys for a baker are hoping the Colorado Supreme Court will put a stop to his legal battles.

A couple of years ago, a trial court found that Jack Phillips of Masterpiece Cakeshop had violated state law by declining to fulfill an order for a male attorney who identifies as a woman.

The supposed customer wanted Phillips to make a "transgender reveal cake." But in addition to conflicting with science, attempting to change genders goes against the cakemaker's religious beliefs.

The Colorado Court of Appeals, however, upheld the trial court's decision, prompting Phillips' attorneys at Alliance Defending Freedom to appeal to the Colorado Supreme Court.

Warner, Jake (ADF attorney) Warner

"We hope that court will affirm the right of every American to say what they believe without fear of government punishment," says Jake Warner of Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF). "For over 10 years, Jack Phillips has been advocating for his right and the right of all Americans to say what they believe without fear of government punishment, and we hope that this will be his last stop where he gets justice."

Warner says a "ruling for Jack would be a win for all Americans."

"It's totally up to the Colorado Supreme Court when they will decide to hear this case, if they will decide to hear it at all," the attorney continues. "We hope to hear something later this summer."

Meanwhile, Masterpiece Cakeshop, where "Jack serves everyone," is open for business.

"He can't express every message through his custom cakes," Warner notes, "but if you're in the Denver area, you're welcome to stop in and say hello."
