Ohio's Attorney General Dave Yost (R) and 28 of the state's pro-life legislators have signed on to friend of the court briefs urging the U.S. Supreme Court to rule in favor of Mississippi in Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization.
"It means everything that Ohio legislators are so committed to protecting life," says Allie Frazier, director of communications at Ohio Right to Life. "We want to make an impact, and we want to see Roe v. Wade put onto the ash heap of history. And when our pro-life legislators are so bold and go up to bat for the unborn, it really is a great reflection of the passion that Ohioans have to protect vulnerable lives."
Ohio Right to Life is asking people to pray about this case.
"Please pray that the Supreme Court would uphold justice in this case," Frazier urges. "And we encourage everyone to get connected with what their local pro-life organizations are doing to fight back and to make sure that everyone is educated about this case and about its impact."
Her organization will continue to update people via email and social media about this case and about how they can get involved and help.
Mississippi has a law banning most abortions after 15 weeks. Enacted in 2018, the measure was blocked after a federal court challenge. Jackson Women's Health Organization, which is Mississippi's only abortion clinic, offers abortions up to 16 weeks of pregnancy, though a clinic director told The Associated Press about 10% of its abortions there are done after the 15th week.
"Under the Constitution, may a state prohibit elective abortions before viability? Yes. Why? Because nothing in constitutional text, structure, history, or tradition supports a right to abortion," Mississippi Attorney General Lynn Fitch and four of her attorneys wrote in the brief.
"Ohio Right to Life just wants to extend a huge thanks to our pro-life legislators and our pro-life attorney general, who are so passionate about defending the unborn," Allie Frazier continues. "They really reflect Ohio's heart for the most vulnerable."
She believes the end of abortion is near.
