Parents in at least two New Jersey school districts have been told their kids will have to mask up when they return to class next week.
Passaic Public Schools Superintendent Sandra Montanez-Dodonet says the mandate for all students and personnel will apply to district facilities, school grounds, and buses. The Shore News Network reports that just days after this announcement was made, a second large New Jersey school district – Camden – followed suit.
Conservative columnist Joseph Connor of We Win America thinks school officials just want to be able to say they are doing something to prevent the spread of COVID, flu, and RSV.
"'We don't care what it is; let's just do something. That way we can say that we have reacted,'" he poses. "And 'we want to help these kids by making them wear masks,' when they don't really care if it helps them or not."
Connor suggests the mandates are driven by policy rather than by science.
"They don't know how to react, so what do they do? Their kneejerk is to limit our rights and take it out on the people," he tells AFN. "To me, it's an attack on our kids."
The mandate reinstatement is currently set to last through January 17 of 2023.
