The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has reportedly allocated $85 million in a grant program to help promote homosexuality in public schools by requiring them to start Gay-Straight Alliances (GSA).
To access that funding, a school must apply for the federal grant, and once deemed eligible, the school can be awarded anywhere from $12,000 to $350,000 for the program. Qualifying schools cannot opt out of the requirement to start clubs that "aim to create a safe, welcoming, and accepting school environment for all youth, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity."
Laurie Higgins of the Illinois Family Institute says it is another example of how the federal government is manipulating local schools.
"We have the government, in essence, extorting schools," she summarizes. "If you want some money, then you have to have these GSAs, which means, for all intents and purposes, they're not student-led; they're led by organizations like GLSEN that provide them all the instructions on what to do."
A second activity required of schools receiving the funding is that they must educate all their staff on how to support LGBT students.
Higgins says leftists want to change the school environment so that no one can express the belief that homosexual acts are immoral.
"It's really just leftists saying, 'We are going to force indoctrination with leftist moral beliefs about homosexuality and cross-sex identification, and we're going to use the government and taxpayer-extorted funds to do that,'" she laments.
The Epoch Times reports this grant is being offered to 28 school districts spanning across 11 blue states and 6 red states.
