In compliance with a state law, North San Diego County's school districts are reportedly installing tampon machines in the boys' bathrooms, even in the elementary schools.

"This started back around 2021," explains Greg Burt, president of California Family Council. "The legislature passed something they called the Menstrual Equity for All Act, where they required feminine hygiene products in all bathrooms, both female and at least one male restroom."
That was originally for schools with 6th – 12th graders.
"We made fun of that," says Burt. "We said this was crazy."
But in 2003, an assembly member who is now a senator, Eloise Gomez Reyes (D), had a Girl Scout troop from her area introduce Assembly Bill 230, which requires feminine products for boys as young as third grade.
As the bill went through the process, they only emphasized the fact that some girls menstruate early, but the underlying message Sen. Reyes and the Girl Scouts are trying to send is even boys menstruate.
Burt says this lie is an obvious waste of taxpayer dollars.
"It was crazy when it was passed, and it's crazy now," he tells AFN. "This is what happens when folks just aren't paying attention to the bills that are being passed."
The tampon machine installations began at the start of the 2024-25 school year and are ongoing.
