A new poll from the Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research finds about 2 in 3 Americans say their household expenses have risen over the last year, but only about 1 in 4 say their income has increased in the same period.
EJ Antoni of The Heritage Foundation, a center-right think tank in Washington, D.C., says this simply adds to the pattern of the last couple of years, where families' earnings increases fall behind price increases.
"Even though the typical American family has a paycheck that's thousands of dollars bigger today than it was in January of 2021, it actually buys them less," Antoni relays.
When it comes to the Biden administration's claim that Bidenomics is working, Antoni agrees that it is doing exactly what it is designed to do.
"Bidenomics is working," he states. "It's working to impoverish the middle class and lower income earners and transfer wealth to the Democrat donor class. In any meaningful way of making people better off – growing the middle class, etc. – it is by no means working," Antoni clarifies.
The numbers, he says, are there to prove it.
"Both the official government statistics show that, but also these polls," the researcher cites. "When you ask people, 'How is the economy doing in your personal life,' we always see the same answer; people feel like they're worse off today than they were a couple of years ago."
Antoni concludes that they feel that way "because they are worse off."
