Left-wing Governor Janet Mills (D-Maine) has signed into law a bill to legalize abortion up to birth and another to provide "gender-affirming care" for MaineCare Members, including minors.
"In the state of Maine, we have leadership, in my opinion, that does not know what to do about the big problems like homelessness [and] housing problems," responds Mike McClellan of the Christian Civic League of Maine. "We have a lot of things that we could work on, but they don't have the answers to that. So, the abortion issue just keeps the base excited, but it's a failure in leadership, in my opinion."
As for the transgender issue, he laments that his state is barreling forward while other countries are seeing the error of their ways and reversing their policies. McClellan says many young men who went through the treatments and surgeries as kids are having serious second thoughts, but too late.
"They listened to the social workers and the teachers and the politicians and the doctors, and they did things to their bodies that can never be fixed," he relays. "Now they're 23, and they realize the issues they had, whatever they were, are still there."
That, he warns, is the situation young people in America are facing now or will face as they grow older. Psychological problems like gender confusion require counseling -- not hormones, puberty blockers, or surgeries.
