Just weeks after Fatima Mousa Mohammed made hateful remarks during her commencement address to the graduating law students at the City University New York, a graduate of a publicly-funded community college in California took to the podium and delivered a similar message.
"I gift my graduation to all Palestinians who have lost their lives and those who continue to lose their lives every day due to the oppressive apartheid state of Israel, killing and torturing Palestinians as we speak," Jana Abulaban, an 18-year-old, self-professed Palestinian, told the applauding audience at the El Camino College graduation in Torrance, California.
Jan Markell, founder and director of Olive Tree Ministries, notices that only Jews are referenced in such tones.
"I would find it interesting if any other faith or ethnic group were spoken horrifically about," she poses. "If a non-Muslim got up and slammed Islam, obviously that would never go over. But it's okay to slam the Jews."
"That's indicative of the growing hostility against Jewish people," Markell decides, noting that the speakers' accusations are downright lies.
"Anybody who's visited the Holy Land knows the Palestinian people actually have the best life of almost anyone in the Middle East when it comes to freedom," she points out. "Nobody has been better to the Arab population than has Israel."
In Markell's opinion, the fact that Abulaban "went on to spew lies … is even a graver offense."
