Governor Tate Reeves (R) has signed into law two bills designed to protect children when they use the internet. Dr. Jameson Taylor, director of policy and legislative affairs at AFA Action, says one measure (HB 1315), requires vendors to remove pornographic content and keeps children safe when they are using databases at school and public libraries.
"The American Library Association has been taken over by avowed Marxists, and they're using libraries to sexualize kids and to expose them to sexually deviant and perverted practices," Taylor explains. "The legislation that Mississippi has passed will keep kids safe when they're using library databases."
The second bill (SB 2346) requires age verification for those who want to access adult websites.
"Louisiana was the first state to pass such a law, going into effect in January of 2023," Taylor notes. "Since then, a handful of other states -- Mississippi, Virginia, and Utah -- have passed similar laws to keep kids safe when they go online."
Roughly 20 other states are considering taking the same action, utilizing a method that has been used to prevent children from going online to gaming and gambling websites and to prevent them from buying alcoholic beverages on the internet.
