A 17-year-old is hoping to convince her town's leaders to consider the dangers of allowing men to invade women's locker rooms.

As an increasing number of men are taking advantage of woke culture – with the blessing of some schools, spas, and health clubs – Rebecca Phillips recently stood up to her city council following an incident at the YMCA in Santee, California.

"As I was showering after my workout, I saw a naked male in the women's locker room," she told the council regarding why she is demanding a change to the city's bathroom and locker room policies. "I immediately went back into the shower, terrified, and hid behind their flimsy excuse for a curtain until he was gone."

She said the YMCA staff essentially ignored all of her concerns, since the other person identifies as a women. But she remains determined to look out for others.

"I could only think of my five-year-old sister, who I bring to this gym during the summer to enjoy their water slides," Phillips shared. "The locker room was supposed to be her safe haven to gossip with her friends and shower and change."

Sandy Rios of the "Sandy Rios 24/7" podcast on AFR says these sorts of exposures are "devastating" to children and women.

"When you put a young woman in a shower with a naked man, if he doesn't touch her or even look at her, tremendous harm has been done," she asserts. "The harm that's done to us emotionally, spiritually, is far more devastating."

The YMCA of San Diego County has since issued an apology to Phillips but has not committed to changing any policies.

The Cameron family, of the Cameron Family YMCA in Santee, has issued a statement saying, "We understand [Phillips'] concerns, as well as the requirements of the YMCA to be in compliance with State of California laws. We are working diligently with the YMCA to find a solution that will allow Rebecca as well as every child, woman, and man to always feel safe and be safe at the Santee YMCA."
