Cahn equated the state of America to Luke 11 when Jesus explained that an unclean spirit left a house, found no acceptable quarter, then returned to its first house. Then it goes and brings seven other spirits more evil than itself, and they enter and dwell there. And the last state of that person is worse than the first, wrote Luke, quoting Jesus.
The rise of sexual deviancy in America plays out in the news cycle daily, but Cahn says events in the 1960s, with the removal of prayer from public schools, and even as far back as the 1940s were signs of things to come.
"A pagan culture produces a Nero, but a post-Christian culture produces a Hitler," Cahn said on Washington Watch last week. "It's no more subtle; it gets more and more brazen."
Western culture from its early beginnings was cleansed by the gospel, the popular author told show host Tony Perkins.
"Any nation that has known God, as America has and the West [has as well], and has been cleansed of paganism – if it ever turns away from God, it's house is not going to stay empty," said the leader of Hope of the World ministry. "What was cast out is coming back into it – with friends – and that's what we have been witnessing."
America, a pagan nation – just like OT Israel
Cahn compared the modern-day United States with Old Testament Israel, which was known for following God – then leaving God. "It would be like if we were in Israel when it was turning away from God, and now it's embracing Baal and apologizing for what it did to Baal, Ashtoreth, Moloch and all that," he said.
Prostitution and child sacrifice were prevalent in the worship of Ashtoreth and Moloch. Cahn contends the same things appear today with abortion and gender confusion or denial.
"It's not an accident that it's pagan, and we are now championing that," he said.
"Look at what's happened with the sexual revolution. Everything is [geared] toward pagan values – everything," he emphasized, "whether it's abortion, whether it's the destruction of marriage, whether it's the destruction of gender. We're in the same boat that the prophets were."
A culture with limited paganism is actually outside the norm, Cahn said, noting that Moses, Elijah and Paul all dealt with different gods while championing God the creator.
"A lot of believers have said, 'I wish I'd lived in biblical times.' Well, congratulations," Cahn said.
The biblical response for believers living in these times, he continued, is found in the Bible – specifically, a return to the example of the New Testament church in the Book of Acts.
"That was not a cultural thing. It was counter-cultural," he shared, referencing the early Church. "It was not status-quo religion. It was revolutionary, it was radical, it was all-out."
