George Barna, Family Research Council's (FRC) senior research fellow for the Center for Biblical Worldview, has found that only 41% of senior or lead pastors have a biblical worldview. Talking about this on the FRC's "Washington Watch" radio program, Barna called that the high watermark.
"When you look at all the different pastors and churches [and] you look at associate pastors, it's around 28%," he relays about those in ministry who hold a biblical worldview. "You look at teaching pastors, it's down to I think 13%. Children's and youth pastors, 12%; executive pastors, 4%."
Barna says the pastors and teachers who lack a biblical worldview likely see the Bible as nothing more than a helpful guidebook.
"They would not say … it contains absolute moral truth; it contains truth principles for life," he submits. "They would say it contains great ideas that over the course of time have been revered by many people, but it's not authoritative; it's not necessarily true. It's something to consider."
Tony Perkins, president of Family Research Council and host of "Washington Watch," thinks senior pastors and parents should take note.
"If I were a senior pastor … that would be an area that I would immediately begin to focus on: Children's pastors and equipping parents," Perkins decides. "Parents are key in this of instilling that biblical worldview and building it in their children."
