More than 200 of these violent illegals have already been deported to a high security facility in El Salvador.
Trump said his administration’s policies have restored order along the U.S.-Mexico border. He said of the changes, “We’re proud of them. Now we just need to get the criminals and murders and rapists”out of “our country.”
Trump's top advisers and Bukele said Monday that they had no basis for the small Central American nation to return a Maryland man who, some say, was wrongly deported there last month.
Trump officials emphasized that Kilmar Abrego Garcia, who was sent to the gang prison in El Salvador, was a citizen of that country and that U.S. has no say in his future. And Bukele said “of course I'm not going to” release him back to U.S. soil.
“The question is preposterous,” Bukele said. “I don't have the power to return him to the United States.”
Should El Salvador want to return Abrego Garcia, the U.S. would “facilitate it, meaning provide a plane,” Attorney General Pam Bondi said.
But she added: “He was illegally in our country."
Trump and Bukele also discussed the problem of biological males being allowed to play on female teams.
Trump asked Bukele “Do you allow men to play in women’s sports?”
“That’s violence,” Bukele responded.
