Speaking to Fox News Channel, Alexa Anderson, who finished third at Oregon's track and field state championship meet earlier this year, described her situation.
"After we placed at the state track and field meet, me and Reese Eckerd of Sherwood decided that we would step off of the medal podium in protest to competing against a biological male. I was inspired to do this because I don't think that biological males in women's sports is fair to any girl out there just because they do have such a biological advantage that they're taking opportunities and chances from hardworking girls, and that needs to be stopped," said Anderson (shown in Fox News screenshot above).
Two weeks into his second term, President Donald Trump signed an executive order stating that educational “programs” would lose federal funds if they continue to allow boys and men in girls’ and women’s sports.
“Therefore, it is the policy of the United States to rescind all funds from educational programs that deprive women and girls of fair athletic opportunities, which results in the endangerment, humiliation, and silencing of women and girls and deprives them of privacy. It shall also be the policy of the United States to oppose male competitive participation in women’s sports more broadly, as a matter of safety, fairness, dignity, and truth,” the order states.
Yet some states persist.

Oregon is facing its second such lawsuit in a month, Fox News reports.
Anderson is being represented by America First Policy Institute where Jessica Steinmann is an attorney. She also spoke to Fox.
"We filed this lawsuit on behalf of Alexa and Reese against the department of education in Oregon for First Amendment violations. Title IX which was meant to protect our girls is now being weaponized against them."
"We put the pressure on the state of Oregon, so it's their chance to respond, and we're really thankful in this case that the Trump administration has been so outspoken on this issue. Actually, last week Secretary Linda McMahan of the Department of Education, based on our lawsuit and Alexa and Reese's actions, announced that they are officially investigating the Department of Oregon for Title IX violations so it's amazing."
