Artificial intelligence is on the way, and it has the potential to not only disrupt the workforce, but the way people relate to each other.

Joel Weldon, a successful voice actor, says that the only way to preserve relationships is face to face.

Although people probably do not know Weldon’s name, it is more than likely that they have heard the voice actor’s voice. He can be heard in Ford ads, saying the iconic words, “In America, adventures can be both big and small….”

He is also the author of a guide on conquering public speaking titled “Three Simple Voice Tricks,” and co-author of “You are the Message.”

With AI on the horizon, Weldon says that there is nothing to keep Ford, in this case, from replacing him with AI Joel.

“It's not going away, and for me personally, it's a concern as a voice actor because you're realizing they're sampling voices of people like me,” informs Weldon.

He says that people are already seeing the AI shockwaves in certain industries.

“You're already seeing all these jobs disappearing — Amazon, what, 15,000 jobs; UPS, 18,000 jobs. That's just the beginning of the wave, I believe. So, something's got to give,” states Weldon.

Weldon says that so much of life is already two dimensional, with every face one sees buried in a screen of some kind. Some people will get lost in the AI world to the neglect of in-real-life interactions.

“It will begin to even assemble emotion in the message, which is really the key to human communication,” says Weldon.

He says that it is especially important for the church not to get lost in a two-dimensional world – Facebook live church services, prayer meetings by text, etc.

“Nothing is going to replace meeting in person. We've got to really be aware of being intentional about being in person, especially when it comes to the body of Christ in church,” states Weldon. “You've got to get together face to face.”
