The news involving Kyle Diamantas (pictured above) comes as pro-life groups have been calling on the FDA to roll back Biden-era policies that allowed easier access to mifepristone, one of the two drugs used in chemical abortions.
When Dr. Marty Makary was running the FDA, pro-lifers were concerned that he was slow walking a study on the safety of the abortion pill. Bloomberg even ran a story in December 2025 claiming Makary requested to put it off until after the 2026 midterm elections.
Pro-life leaders and organizations are not pleased with Kyle Diamantas being in charge now, even if it is only temporary.
"The new FDA commissioner must be 100% committed to protecting innocent children in the womb AND their mothers," said Kristan Hawkins of Students for Life in an X post.
Live Action founder Lila Rose also weighed in on social media, saying that "we cannot allow someone who represented Planned Parenthood to oversee rules surrounding the deadly abortion pill mifepristone that has killed MILLIONS of babies."
Kimberlyn Schwartz of Texas Right to Life tells AFN pro-life Christians need to be paying attention.
"Our new interim director has a history with Planned Parenthood, and that doesn't mean that he hasn't converted," she notes. "There are some pro-life advocates saying that the FDA commissioner has already reached out to them saying that he is pro-life."
Schwartz added that "the main thing that we need to question" is what Diamantas is going to do as FDA commissioner.
"If he's appointed as head of the FDA permanently, is he going to try to stop abortion pills?" Schwartz wonders. "There's so much that the FDA is in charge of right now, and they hold unborn lives in their hands."
Supporters of abortion have long claimed that chemical abortions are safe, but pro-lifers say research shows otherwise. A 2025 study from the Ethics & Public Policy Center, for example, found one in ten women taking the abortion pill experiences a severe health event.
As a result, organizations like Students for Life, Live Action and Texas Right to Life continue to call on the Trump FDA to roll back the Biden-era policies allowing greater access to abortion pills.
Texas Right to Life has a petition.
"We have to keep putting this message in front of President [Donald] Trump so that he hears us and pays attention," Schwartz says.
