The group from Christendom College numbered in the hundreds when it gathered outside an abortion clinic to pray.
Matt Lamb is Associate Editor for the College Fix.
“On a regular basis, students from Christendom College travel an hour and a half away to pray outside of an abortion facility, but once a year, they make a concerted effort to try to turn out as many students as possible. And so, (it was) for this last ‘Mega Shield’ event in November,” he said.
One student told The College Fix that Mega Shield is in part an opportunity to make clear what they stand for as the Christendom community. Nearly half the school’s enrollment turned out for the event.
“There were more than 200 students there. And there's only about 550 students at the college altogether, so that means about half of the students turned out for this massive prayer event outside of an abortion facility."
Katie Brown Xavios is the National Director of American Life League.
"This really, this really made my day when I saw this. I think, especially this year, we've seen so many people who work in the pro-life movement focusing so much on politics, and while politics is definitely half of the equation. I think it's so important to remember how important prayer and the spiritual battle against abortion is, too."
She said hopefully it's a renewed generation of people who remember that "while abortion can be solved to some extent with politics," we have to rely on our faith and on God to fully win this battle for us.
It's hard to imagine that Mega Shield did not have a positive impact for life that day.
Lamb said he doesn't know if the clinic responded to the students' presence, but he said it is "pretty well proven" that the number of abortions on a given day tend to go down when there are people outside doing things like praying or sidewalk counseling.
